There are many options a high school graduate may choose when entering university. The advent of the Internet has also made it possible for them to earn their degrees online but nothing beats the collegiate experience. For a lot of us, going to college out of state is a rite of passage leaving one phase of life and entering into the next. This means leaving home and going to an unfamiliar place, living with strangers and adjusting to new surroundings. It is in this situation wherein a new social skill set is learned, tested, and hopefully mastered by the end of the four years or so in university. Depending on which course is taken as one can take up law and decide to be a San Diego criminal attorney of sorts or one can also take up medicine and spend the next 8 years mastering a course only to spend another 5 years in a hospital taking up residency and sub-specialization, there are options to be decided upon and taken. And it is all part of the process which one goes through in this aspect of life.

The life lessons of university life are varied yet important in all aspects. Learning to live on your own and with other people is an essential lesson indirectly taught in campus. Social interaction of this nature is important as one is taken from the comfort zone of living in a place all too unfamiliar. Learning to adapt and adjust to certain people and situations are crucial. This also means learning how to socialize. Joining an organization or a Greek letter society may be a good experience in this way because going through a shared experience like initiation with your fellow brothers or sisters’ bonds people together. Sharing the same cause is another way to meet people with the same interest. University life is a microcosm of how the real world interacts.

In another like the reality of competition is also felt in college life whether that be in academic or sports competition. No matter how you think about it, there will always be someone smarter than you when you enter college. Whether this person is your contemporary, senior or professor, you may learn to co-mingle with such people and learn how to work harmoniously or else be challenged on how to compete against this person in an honourable and scholastic manner. Nevertheless, to learn such life lessons in college is the true experience gained. Lessons that will help you transition into the workforce.

Living in San Diego and is a fresh graduate or graduating soon? Why not try to be a San Diego DUI Lawyer? It is undeniably high income potential but apart from this, a San Diego Criminal Attorney is a great help to both motorists and traffic law enforcers.

The famous University of Pennsylvania is situated in the city of Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania in the country of the United States of America. The University of Pennsylvania is one of the few universities of the US that came into being at about the same time the country was established. As a result, the University of Pennsylvania boasts of a rich history. It is a reputed University and is part of the prestigious Ivy League group of universities. Benjamin Franklin, who was an important citizen of Philadelphia when Philadelphia and Pennsylvania were in their earliest stages of development, is credited with being the founder of the University. He was a student of the University himself. Franklin initiated several progressive reforms in the College of Philadelphia – that was the name of the University then – so that the College became one of the main seats of higher learning of the New World.

Aim, Goal, Motto

The University used the great Roman poet, Horace’s work to devise its motto. The English translation of the Latin words (composed by Horace), the University represented in its motto were: ‘of what avail empty laws without good morals?’ These words were changed gradually over the years. The present motto is: ‘laws without morals are useless.’ This is only a slight modification of Horace’s original words. As the University of Pennsylvania, also known as the University of Penn, proudly proclaims that ‘laws without morals are useless’, it should examine its own laws and morals thoroughly. Can the University be so cocksure of its own laws and morals?

Studies

The University of Pennsylvania is celebrated for its many departments or schools such as its School for Engineering and Applied Science, School of Nursing, College of Arts and Sciences and ‘The Wharton School’, the well-known B-School of the world. The University of Pennsylvania is eminent for encouraging its students to pursue multidisciplinary careers. The University urges its students to study for more than one degree at a time and to pursue majors in subjects that are not commonly studied. It also allows a great degree of flexibility in its course curricula so that students with children and working students can study comfortably at the University.

The University of Pennsylvania is home to several graduate schools as well where students pursue graduate courses, professional courses and research programs. Some of these schools are the University of Pennsylvania Law School, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science, and other schools.

Admissions

The University of Pennsylvania observes very strict admission procedures just to show that it is a great university and that it admits none but the best. It generally admits only 16% of the total number of applicants who apply to the University. It ensures that those it admits have secured top places in their respective high schools. Only 60% to 65% of the admitted candidates actually get through the stiff courses of the University and receive degrees. The University of Pennsylvania is ranked as one of the first 10 most difficult universities to secure admissions in, in the whole of the US.

On the whole, the University is also a seat of egotism apart from learning and higher education. Because it ranks within the top ten universities of the country, it thinks the world of itself. It automatically infuses its vanity into its students who think greatly of themselves when they graduate from the University. The students of the University of Pennsylvania feel that they have the right to demand respect from people who are ordinary and who are not so successful. It is sad that the more meritorious students are, the more haughty they become.

Life at the University of Penn

There is no doubt about the fact that the campus of the University is well-laid-out and beautiful. Apparently, the architects of the University had copied the architectural styles of Oxford and Cambridge, famous universities of England, when designing the University of Pennsylvania. The entire University campus comprises imposing Gothic edifices. However, some modern looking buildings have also cropped up in the campus during the last couple of years. The University of Pennsylvania boasts of some fifteen libraries and millions of books. The museum of the University of Pennsylvania showcases countless relics and artifacts to all its visitors. These exhibits are extremely ancient and belong to the Egyptian, Chinese, Mesopotamian, and Persian civilizations. Some of the statues and objets d’art on display also belong to the Latin American civilizations. The museum employs the talents of scientists in order to decipher inscriptions on and find out the ages of its various exhibits. The Institute of Contemporary Art in the campus of the University of Pennsylvania hosts several expositions throughout the year.

Like most American universities, the University of Pennsylvania allows students to lodge within its premises during their freshman year. Once, they become juniors and sophomores, they move out of the University campus and take up residences in the vicinity of the University.

Students of the University of Pennsylvania are typically impertinent but brilliant in their studies. Several Asian students apply to the University of Pennsylvania to secure seats in the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs, year after year.

The students are members of various student bodies, most of which espouse causes that appeal to the students.

Like most American universities, the University of Pennsylvania encourages its students to participate in sports and sporting activities such as soccer, rugby and basketball.

The University of Pennsylvania is pretty illustrious for being a seat of action. The University of Pennsylvania is one of the few universities of the US that is known for its liveliness and verve.

The University of Pennsylvania is a really good place to study and do research in. Hats off to the University of Pennsylvania for being one of the best universities of the United States of America!

The eight US Presidents that went to school at Harvard are:

1. John Adams – 2nd President of the United States (Harvard class of 1755)
2. John Quincy Adams – 6th President of the United States (Harvard class of 1788)
3. Rutherford B. Hayes – 19th President of the United States (Harvard Law class of 1845)
4. Theodore Roosevelt – 26th President of the United States (Harvard class of 1880)
5. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) – 32nd President of the United States (Harvard class of 1904)
6. John F. Kennedy (JFK) – 35th President of the United States (Harvard class of 1940)
7. George Walker Bush – 43rd President of the United States (Harvard Business class of 1973)
8. Barack Obama – 44th President of the United States (Harvard Law class of 1991)

Rutherford B. Hayes (law school), George W. Bush (business school), and Barack Obama (law school) are the three men that have received graduate degrees and not undergraduate degrees from Harvard before going on to become President of the United States of America.

With eight alumni boasting the privilege of holding the highest office in the land Harvard has the high water mark when compared to any other university. In fact, the only group that has put more people in the White House is the not so prestigious grouping of US Presidents that did not attend college at all, of which there are nine.

The nine US Presidents that never enrolled in college are:

1. George Washington (1st President)
2. Andrew Jackson (7th President)
3. Martin Van Buren (8th President)
4. Zachary Taylor (12th President)
5. Millard Fillmore (13th President)
6. Abraham Lincoln (16th President)
7. Andrew Johnson (17th President)
8. Grover Cleveland (22nd President)
9. Harry S. Truman (33rd President)

Of the nine names listed immediately above the most curious to onlookers is probably that of Harry Truman who despite having high schools and a college named after him (Truman State University) Truman has the unique distinction of being the only twentieth century President to never go to college. President Truman was a two term Democrat President that was in office from 1945 to 1953 and will in all likelihood go down in history as the last man to hold the title of leader of the free world without a college diploma. The story of why Harry Truman did not attend college is because his poor eyesight kept him from attending West Point and financial constraints due to his modest upbringing preventing him from pursuing a degree anywhere that he would have to produce tuition.

Harry Truman became arguably the most influential twentieth century US President despite never receiving a degree from Harvard or anywhere else and perhaps instead of that seeming like a fluke it should serve as motivation to all folks that regardless of college admission letters and financial means any American can make a difference.

Rick finds alumni classifications fascinating and thinks it’s particularly interesting to ponder how many people in the oval office have put Harvard University wallpaper on the desktop background of a computer that sat on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. The answer to that question is probably somewhere from zero to two and in all likelihood is zero as Obama and George W both just went to grad school at Harvard.

If putting up Harvard University computer wallpaper is something of interest to readers of this article they are encouraged to visit Rick’s website to check out a wide assortment of choices. In fact, that offer stands for all colleges and not just Harvard.

In our current age of technology, the number of jobs in the field of computers is more or less endless. And if you want a piece of the pie, the most effective way to get it is by choosing the correct path of education. Most employers demand at least an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences for you to get ahead, whether you are computer literate or not. Along with your degree, employers also look for talent, proficiency, a certain skill set, and good communication skills. In today’s current economic climate, doomsayers are propounding that the IT field is dead. But, this is far away from the truth. Yes, there is a slump but given that nearly every aspect of our day-to-day lives are ruled by computers, there will once again be a steady growth in the field and choosing a computer science degree will definitely pay off in the long run.

Computer science degree aim to cover theory and programming along with up to date developments and computing solutions. It prepares students with a foundation for creative thought and problem solving as well as training in new technologies and certifications. A comprehensive computer science program should include some or all of the following subjects – Computer Fundamentals, Database Management, Computer Servicing, Computer Technologies, Client Networking Concepts, Networking Concepts, Network Administration, Network Communication, Operating Systems, Internet Networks, Operating Systems Networking, Programming, Object Oriented Programming, Relational Database Concepts and Methods, Database Design, Internet Programming, and telecommunications.

Armed with a computer science, graduates can choose from a variety of exciting career options such as computer systems analyst, IT or computer consultant, software or hardware engineer/ developer, web or applications programmer, computer engineering technician, web developer and database administrator. Industries that require a computer science degree are even more wide-ranging. Computer specialists are called for in entertaining, publishing, business, commerce, law, medicine, gaming, manufacturing, food and agriculture and much more. It would be difficult to find any source of employment or industry today that isn’t run by computers and if you have a computer science degree, there will be no lack of job opportunities for you once you graduate.

Another great advantage of a computer science program is the flexibility it offers you to work anywhere via a virtual office. You could be at home, in an office, or on field and still have gainful employment. There is no doubt about the growth possibilities in the field of computers, the only thing required to stay successful in this arena is to constantly educate yourself with the latest technologies and developments. Updating your skills and certifications will keep you on top of the game and is the only way to make your mark in this ever-changing and demanding field.

You might faced difficulties to explain the value and equality of your online degree to employers and persuade them that your degree that earn from online education has no different with other degrees issued by campus-based universities.

In today’s world, the situation changes as online education has become so popular and it now receives wide support among businesses. The worries of whether an online degree will not be accepted by employers can be eliminated. Hence, you have more than one option to earn a degree, either from traditional brick-and-mortar university or earn it through online degree program. The only decision you need to make is whether earning a degree online is a better option for you.

Online education is designed to provide flexible learning environment that involves a certain degree of self-paced study. It has pros and cons that you need to take into consideration to ensure you can benefit the most from its advantages while have minimum impacts caused by its disadvantages. Earning a degree online may be a better option for you if you are:

1. A working individual who plan to continue your education to earn a degree while continue with your current job. You can benefit from the flexible learning schedule, the key feature of online education to plan your learning time that can fit into your busy schedule while eliminate the hassle of traveling from and to the school after work.

2. You prefer self-pace study style than the fit schedule on classes as in brick-and-mortar universities. If you are able to motivate yourself to go through and complete the online degree program without the need for someone to look at your back, then online learning environment will fit you well.

3. You are interested to pursue a degree that is not found at the universities at your state or the degree of your interest is only offered by university abroad. Then, earning the degree online may be a better option since you can choose to pursue your favorite degree without the need to consider where the university is located. Moreover, by earning a degree online, you save in relocation or traveling cost.

In contrary, earning your degree online may not be a good option for you if you have one of below characteristics:

1. You are a kind of person that needs somebody to look at your back in order to complete a task. Online education requires strong self-motivation if you want to success with it.

2. You learn better with guides from lecturers in physical classes than learning yourself from the online materials. Moreover, you prefer to listen to the lectures than reading text that will make you a better learner in class-based setting.

Summary

Online education has been widely accepted in the job market making you have more than one option to choose how you like to earn a degree, either a traditional campus-based or through online setting. You should choose one that best benefits you in earning your degree.
